# Check your install

## `talotrace doctor`

```bash
talotrace doctor --ports 3000
```

`doctor` only reads. It never opens a browser and changes nothing. Each failing check names one next step. It exits 1 when a check fails.

`--offline` skips the checks that need the network. `--timeout` bounds one request.

## The `diagnose` tool

Your agent calls `diagnose` first, and again whenever a call is refused. It answers `ready`, `degraded` or `blocked` for a project and lists `next_steps`. A step marked `run` is a call the agent makes. A step marked `guidance` is for you: the agent shows it word for word.

See [MCP tools](/reference/mcp/setup-diagnose) for the full answer.
