# Manual install for Cursor, Codex and others

Prefer [`talotrace setup`](/install/setup-command). Use this page when you edit the configuration yourself.

The MCP server is `npx -y @talotrace/connect mcp`. It needs Node 22.14 or newer. Each environment has its own package, so there is no URL to set. The packages are listed under [Configuration](/reference/configuration).

#### Cursor

Put this in `.cursor/mcp.json` in the project, or in `~/.cursor/mcp.json` for every project.

#### Codex

Put this in `~/.codex/config.toml`, then restart Codex.

#### Claude Code

#### Any other client

Run `npx -y @talotrace/connect mcp` as a stdio server. Without npm, download the archive for your system from the GitHub release and use its `talotrace` program as the command: `talotrace mcp`. A program you download follows production.

## Skills

The MCP server gives your agent the tools. The skills tell it how to use them. `talotrace setup` writes them. Without it, copy the skill of your environment from the plugin repository into your project's `AGENTS.md` or rules.
